I am an astrobiologist and planetary scientist at Carnegie Science's Earth & Planets Laboratory. My primary scientific interests are biosignatures, habitability, planetary atmospheres, and the emergence of life. With Robert M. Hazen, I co-wrote a forthcoming popular science book titled Time's Second Arrow: Evolution, Order, and a New Law of Nature. Additionally, I am co-authoring a revised edition of the textbook Astrobiology: A Multidisciplinary Approach with Jonathan I. Lunine. In my spare time, I host a podcast called Strange New Worlds, which examines science, technology, and culture through the lens of Star Trek.
